In a game for the ages in St Munchins on Saturday Limerick Celtics Women’s National League team won the Division One Semifinal by 5 points in OT v an Excellent Limerick Sports Huskies.
Huskies led by 5 points with the clock ticking to 31 seconds remaining in the 4th. Limerick Celtics called a timeout and executed coach Jordan Hehirs end of game plan to a tee showing huge experience and discipline to nudge the game to OT.
The MVP of the game Shelby Harmeyer curled off a Sabhbh Edwards Murphy screen to hit a 25 foot 3 pointer to reduce the Husky lead to 2 points with 30 seconds remaining. A series of tactical fouls an incredible dual block by Amy Buckley and Stephanie McBride gave Celtic’s possession with 3 seconds on the clock.
The unstoppable Harmeyer drew a foul with 0.13 seconds left and with ice in her veins hit both to force OT.
Celtics to a crescendo of drums from the large Celtics travelling fans expertly controlled the game in OT to win by 5 points.
Shelby Harmeyer had 32 Points and The double double machine Stephanie McBride had 30 points and 16 Rebounds . Louise Scannell hit 10 and Sabhbh Edwards Murphy Amy Buckley and Meabh Purtill contributed 12 points . Big minutes from Guards Sorca Cronin and Ali Walsh help shore up Celtics waspish defense late in the game.
