FIBA RULE : 4.4

Hi All,

This weekend sees our Championship Finals in Parochial Hall.

Below is an email sent to Clubs regarding injuries caused by nails. There was also a follow up email with a reminder of the rule.

This rule will be enforced at all games.

We are asking referees to enforce the FIBA RULE :

4.4. Other equipment :

4.4.2. Players shall not wear equipment (objects) that may cause injury to other players.

The following are not permitted:

▬ Finger, hand, wrist, elbow or forearm guards, casts or braces made of leather, plastic, pliable (soft) plastic, metal or any other hard substance, even if covered with soft padding.

Objects that could cut or cause abrasions (fingernails must be closely cut).

 Hair accessories and jewellery.

The majority of objects mentioned above are already not allowed by referees and we are now enforcing Fingernails as an object that may cause harm.

It’s in the interest of all clubs that nails are closely cut, as failure to comply will result in players having to sit out games.

This rule could impact greatly on Underage teams who must have ten players or forfeit the game. Coaches must inform their players of this rule.

Regards

George Meade

Super Away League Win in Portlaoise for LIT Celtics

LIT Celtics bounced back from a home league loss to league leaders KCYMS with a superb away performance in Portlaoise on Sunday. LIT Celtics got out of the blocks with blistering form and hit their opening five shoots to give them a 8 point early first quarter lead. Matt St Armour was unstoppable in these opening exchanges and hit some superb three pointers to give his LIT Celtics team a super 10 point lead heading into the end of the first quarter.
Andre Clerigo, Emmet Brown and Ciaran Woods also added some excellent scores to help increase the LIT Celtics lead in the second quarter. The full house attending the game was treated to some super basketball with Jordan Hehir, Cian O’Reilly and Aidan Holden finishing off some super scores. Celtics finished off the second half with some excellent team basketball and a 41 to 30 scoreline. Panthers came out strong in the third quarter and reduced the Celtics lead to 4 but again Matt St Armour hit some huge three pointers and Andre Clerigo stepped up to add four unanswered points to restore a 12 point lead for the Limerick side. LIT Celtics teamwork once again came to the fore with some excellent defense and some great passing and finishing the Limerick side had increased their lead to 20 points. John Bridges, Conor Byrne, Eoghan Mooney and Kevin Dowling added huge minutes and super performances to see out a fantastic league win for the young Limerick side.

Well done to LIT Celtics on a super win. Due to the withdrawal of UL Eagles Celtics will have a rest weekend next weekend . LIT Celtics are away to Letterkenny on the weekend of November 11th and return home to take on Galway Titans on November 18th at 6pm.

Congrats to Matt St Armour on receiving the Golden Ball for September Player of the Month.
